All About Me
Hi!!

My name is Cannice Ritchie. I opened Northside in 2001, as it has always been my dream to create and enrich an early learning environment to the best of my ability. Over the years, I have grown alongside the centre, the world, and the many children and families I have had the pleasure of working with and supporting.

I have an extensive background rooted in child and youth care environments, including work within the school district and residential youth programming in our community. My educational background is equally extensive. I hold a Master’s Degree in Education and have a strong passion for learning principles and understanding how children develop. What I value most is my ability to bridge theory and practice, allowing me to bring a hands-on, meaningful approach to enriching the daily experiences of the children in my care.

I hold my provincial Early Childhood Education certification at the highest level, including Infant Toddler (IT) and Special Needs (SNE) specializations. In addition to my certifications, I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, supported by extensive work and research in inclusive environments for children through Capilano University. I also hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Psychology and am certified as a Level 3 Early Childhood Educator in Alberta, with credentials that meet criteria for licensing across Canada.

I am deeply passionate about the field of early childhood education, with a strong focus on pedagogical approaches rooted in reflective practice, as well as inclusive and nurturing care that forms the foundation of quality child care. I actively pursue workshop development and contribute to teaching and programming for Early Childhood Educators. As the owner of a fully licensed multi-age centre, I maintain current First Aid certification and regularly update my Child Care Licensing requirements (including CRS). I have also completed foundational training to teach First Aid and plan to complete the practical component in the future, as I believe safety is paramount in supporting both nurturing and learning within childcare environments.

In addition, I have been certified in CORE Safety Management Systems in Alberta and continuously update my knowledge through coursework, seminars, symposiums, and active involvement in the early learning community whenever possible.

I truly love what I do and take great pride in my chosen career. It is more than a job—it is a part of who I am. I value building strong, meaningful relationships with families and welcoming them into a supportive, extended community where we work together to nurture and guide children through these important early years.
